My hitch/rear end insurance is already getting rusty. The hitch lock as well. It’s only been 3 months or so.

I solved this problem by taking my hitch off when not in use like a decent human being. :)

I remove my Hitch when I don’t use it, cause if not they rust there in place.

My shins thank me every time i walk in back of it.

I do trailers sometimes so I’m not sure if I could pull that off

Plus when you get lightly rear ended your bumper takes the hit instead of transferring it past and directly into the frame (depending on vehicle).

My other option is running with my equalizer in, but no one would enjoy that..

That’s not even from use. That’s just poor surface finish. Mine rusted after a few weeks, but that is due to towing a boat. Takes the finish right off the ball.

Although most receivers are fairly flush with the outer edge of the bumper, so I’m sure they take the impact as much as the bumper anyway. But leaving the hitch in just makes it so much easier to make a minor tap into an expensive situation, and in my experience, it’s usually when the hitch toting vehicle is backing up that these “marriages” occur.

I take mine off because locking hitch pins tend to fail in the salt encrusted snow belt I live in. I’ve had to cut off more than one, so I keep mine with my trailer and just install it when needed and use a standard pin. I also use a stainless hitch (but not ball, I don’t think).

So we took this two week jaunt to Washington State and back. The day we get back, wife’s asshole boss is asshole, so we uncouple and she scoots off to work

Poor summbitch in a Civic taps the truck and taps out. Wife said she didn’t feel a thing. Civic was ruint. It scratched our equalizer hitch and we got a brand new bumper and exhaust outlet out of the deal

The one time I wasn’t adamant about pulling the thing, and I’m glad I didn’t

It doesn’t snow much where I live and they’ve only salted the roads like once this winter.
